UF Labor Day 2026 — Monday, September 7

Campus is closed, and no classes are held on Monday, September 7, 2026. This falls approximately three weeks into the Fall 2026 semester. UF libraries, dining halls, and campus transportation may operate on modified schedules.

Check UF Libraries and UF Dining directly for real-time hours on that date. The no-class designation applies to all course modalities, including online and hybrid sections.

UF Homecoming Holiday 2026 — October 9 and 10

Understanding the Homecoming Employee Holiday vs. the Academic No-Class Days

Friday, October 9, 2026, is an official paid holiday for eligible UF employees; campus offices are closed.

For students, both Friday, October 9, and Saturday, October 10 are designated no-class days per the UF Registrar. These are distinct designations serving different populations.

No-class daysAll enrolled studentsFriday, October 9 – Saturday, October 10, 2026
Homecoming football gameSet by UF AthleticsConfirmed separately by UF Athletics/SEC

A campus closure for employees on October 9 does not mean all university services are unavailable.

Essential units remain operational as determined by their vice president or designee. The Homecoming football game date is not part of the academic holiday designation.

UF Veterans Day 2026 — Wednesday, November 11

No classes are held, and campus offices are closed on Wednesday, November 11, 2026.

Because Veterans Day falls mid-week in 2026, the academic week resumes on Thursday, November 12.

Faculty may still assign work or assessments due after the holiday. The university’s official position is that the holiday cancels scheduled class meetings.

Assigned coursework obligations outside of class meeting times are determined by individual instructors.

UF Thanksgiving Break 2026

UF Thanksgiving Break 2026 runs from Monday, November 23, through Saturday, November 28, 2026. Classes resume on Monday, November 30, 2026.

The university is officially closed on Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27. Classes are suspended for the full November 23–28 period.

Practical details for students on campus during Thanksgiving:

  • Most UF Dining locations operate on a modified schedule during the break period. Confirm specific location hours via the UF Housing & Dining portal at housing.ufl.edu.
  • UF Housing does not universally close residential halls for Thanksgiving. Students with active housing contracts may typically remain in their assigned residence. Confirm the 2026–2027 policy directly with UF Housing.
  • UF Libraries operate on modified hours during academic breaks. Consult the UF Libraries website for building-specific hours.
  • Online UF courses observe the same university-wide Thanksgiving Break designation as in-person courses.

UF Winter Break 2026 — December 25, 2026, through January 1, 2027

The official UF Holiday Closing Period (Winter Break 2026) for employees spans Friday, December 25, 2026, through Friday, January 1, 2027.

This is the employee-facing administrative closure.

It is distinct from the academic winter break, which encompasses a longer no-class period for students beginning after the Fall 2026 final exam period ends on December 11, 2026.

Reading Days (no classes) fall on December 3–4, 2026. Final exams run December 5–11, 2026.

Commencement is scheduled for December 11–12, 2026. Degree status and final grades become available on ONE.UF on Tuesday, December 16, 2026.

No classes are held, and campus offices are closed on Monday, January 18, 2027.

This falls during the second week of the Spring 2027 semester. The Drop/Add window closes January 15, two business days before MLK Day, so the holiday does not interrupt the Drop/Add period itself.

  • Online UF courses observe the same spring break schedule as in-person courses. The no-class designation applies to all modalities.
  • The Faculty Course Evaluation Period (GatorEvals) runs April 9–23, 2027 — it does not overlap with spring break. Access GatorEvals at my.ufl.edu.
  • UF Health clinics may operate on a modified schedule during spring break. Patients should contact their specific clinic or department directly.

UF Employee Holiday Policy & Eligibility

Who Qualifies for UF Paid Holidays

Leave-accruing Academic Personnel and TEAMS employees receive 11 official paid holidays per calendar year, per UF Human Resources policy. Eligibility conditions are specific and non-discretionary:

  • Full-time employees earn 8 hours of holiday pay per holiday, provided they are in pay status for a reasonable portion of their last regularly scheduled workday before the holiday. The department determines what constitutes a “reasonable portion.”
  • Part-time employees receive holiday pay proportional to their FTE. A 0.75 FTE employee receives 6 hours of holiday pay per holiday.
  • OPS employees are not leave-accruing. They do not automatically receive paid holidays. Departments may adjust OPS work schedules, and OPS staff report hours through the state of Florida People First biweekly system.
  • Personnel receiving workers’ compensation salary indemnification are not entitled to holiday pay or special compensatory leave in conjunction with a holiday. This applies regardless of FTE or employment classification.

This policy does not apply to non-leave-accruing temporary employees or student employees in the same way. Graduate assistants are governed by a separate policy framework detailed below.

UF President’s Office Designated Holiday — Friday, January 2, 2026

Friday, January 2, 2026, is a UF President’s Office Designated Holiday, adding a 12th paid holiday day for eligible employees in 2026. This designation is specific to the 2026 calendar year. It is not a federal or Florida state holiday.

The UF President’s Office issues this designation at its discretion and does not guarantee it will recur in any subsequent year. No equivalent designation has been announced for 2027.

How to Record Holiday Time in myUFL

TRC Code HOL: Non-Exempt and Exempt Employee Instructions

Non-exempt UF employees enter holiday hours in their myUFL timesheet using Time Reporting Code (TRC) HOL.

Exempt employees have holiday time entered automatically by the system and do not need to take action unless one of two exceptions applies.

Exception 1 — Worked on the holiday: Update the timesheet to reflect actual hours worked and coordinate with the department for compensatory time per applicable policy.

Exception 2 — Vacation (VAC) already entered for the holiday date: Change the entry from VAC to HOL. Logging VAC instead of HOL for an official university holiday results in an inaccurate leave balance that must be corrected.

Step-by-step instructions for non-exempt employees recording holiday time in myUFL:

  1. Log in to myUFL at my.ufl.edu using GatorLink credentials.
  2. Navigate to: Main Menu → Human Resources → Time and Labor → Report Time → Timesheet.
  3. Locate the holiday date on the current timesheet period.
  4. Enter hours: 8 hours for full-time; proportional hours for part-time based on FTE.
  5. Select TRC code HOL from the reporting code dropdown.
  6. Save and submit the timesheet before the departmental deadline.

Exempt employees who worked on a holiday and are entitled to compensatory leave should coordinate the comp time request directly with their department’s HR coordinator. The compensatory leave entitlement and conditions are governed by UF HR Leave policy.

UF Holiday Closing Period & Personal Leave Days

Vacation-accruing Academic Personnel and TEAMS employees receive 4 personal leave days (32 hours at full-time FTE) per year, designated for use during the December holiday closing period.

This allotment is separate from, and in addition to, the 11 official paid holidays.

Rules differ by employee classification:

Employee TypeIncrement RequirementPermitted Use Window
Non-essential TEAMS employeesFull-day increments onlyDuring the December holiday closing period
Non-essential Academic PersonnelFull-day increments onlyDecember 1 through the end of fiscal year
Essential TEAMS employeesAny incrementDecember 1 through the end of the fiscal year
Essential Academic PersonnelAny incrementDecember 1 through the end of the fiscal year
OPS employeesNot applicableDepartment adjusts schedule as needed

Total personal leave hours in any one workweek cannot exceed the employee’s FTE hours. Essential employees at UF are defined per the University of Florida Essential Employees Policy at policy.ufl.edu.

Certain campus units remain open during the holiday closing period as determined by the relevant vice president or designee.

OPS employees who take time off during the holiday break should confirm the impact on their health benefits eligibility with their department.

Time off during this period may affect the required minimum hours threshold for health benefits under the People First system. OPS staff report hours to the state of Florida, People First biweekly — not through myUFL.

UF Health Shands Holiday Schedule 2026–2027

Does UF Health Follow the Same Holiday Schedule as UF Main Campus?

UF Health Shands is a hospital system that maintains essential clinical operations year-round. It does not close on official university holidays in the same way as the main academic campus.

The distinction matters across three populations:

PopulationHoliday Schedule
UF main campus administrative staffFollows official UF HR 11-holiday calendar
UF Health administrative staff (eligible)Follows official UF HR 11-holiday calendar
UF Health clinical staff (nurses, residents, clinical personnel)Follows departmental rotation schedule
Patients and visitorsContact specific clinic or unit directly

Clinical staff at UF Health — including nursing staff, medical residents, and clinical support personnel — typically operate under rotating holiday schedules determined at the unit or department level.

These schedules are not published in the general UF HR holiday calendar. Employees in clinical roles should consult their department manager, employment agreement, or applicable collective bargaining agreement for specific shift and holiday pay provisions.

Patients with scheduled appointments at UF Health clinics on official university holidays should confirm appointment status directly with their clinic. Emergency services at UF Health Shands Hospital are not subject to university holiday closure designations.

UF Health Shands Employee Holiday Pay Policy

Eligible UF Health employees who are required to work on an official university holiday are typically compensated per the terms of their applicable employment agreement or collective bargaining agreement.

The specific rate of holiday pay, shift differentials, and compensatory time provisions vary by employment class and bargaining unit. Employees should direct questions to UF Health HR or their department manager for role-specific provisions.

UF Parking, Dining & Campus Services on Holidays

UF Parking Enforcement on Official Holidays

On official university holidays when the campus is closed, UF Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) typically suspends enforcement in most surface lots.

However, enforcement in several categories continues regardless of holiday designation:

  • Multi-story parking garages
  • Metered spaces
  • Specific reserved zones and ADA-designated spaces

UF Homecoming weekend may carry additional parking rules coordinated with UF Athletics and game day operations. These differ from standard holiday enforcement policy.

Verify current enforcement status at parking.ufl.edu before parking on any official holiday. Policies can vary by specific holiday and location, and TAPS publishes updates ahead of major holiday periods.

UF Bookstore Holiday Hours 2026–2027

The UF Bookstore, operated by Follett, reduces hours or closes entirely during official university holidays and academic break periods. The two highest-impact closure windows are:

  • Thanksgiving Break (November 23–28, 2026): Bookstore typically closed or operating on significantly reduced hours.
  • Holiday Closing Period (December 25, 2026 – January 1, 2027): Bookstore closed.

Students requiring course materials before a break period should complete purchases before these windows open.

The official UF Bookstore website publishes real-time holiday hour adjustments.

UF Dining Hall Hours During Holiday Breaks

UF Dining operates on modified schedules during Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break.

The following patterns apply under standard operating conditions. Confirm 2026–2027 specifics via the UF Housing & Dining portal.

Break PeriodTypical Dining Impact
Thanksgiving Break (November 23–28, 2026)Most locations close; reduced operations for residential students on break stay
Winter Break / Holiday Closing Period (December 25, 2026 – January 1, 2027)Most locations closed
Spring Break (March 13–20, 2027)Select locations open with reduced hours

Residential students remaining on campus during breaks should check the UF Housing & Dining portal at housing.ufl.edu for location-specific and date-specific schedules before each break period begins.

UF Graduate Assistant Holiday Schedule 2026–2027

Do Graduate Assistants Receive Paid University Holidays?

Graduate assistants at UF are generally entitled to observe official university holidays without loss of pay, per UF Graduate School policy.

This entitlement carries conditions that distinguish GAs from standard TEAMS employees.

GAs employed under sponsored research grants or external contracts should verify their holiday entitlement with their supervising faculty member or departmental HR coordinator. The funding source of the appointment can affect whether a particular holiday is covered under the GA’s terms of employment.

The UF Graduate Assistant Leave of Absence policy is administered separately from the TEAMS and Academic Personnel leave policy. Holiday time for GAs is not entered in myUFL using TRC code HOL in the same manner as for regular TEAMS employees. GAs should confirm applicable procedures with their hiring department.

GAs assigned required duties — lab shifts, supervisory responsibilities, or grading — on official holidays should document the arrangement in writing with their supervising faculty member and consult UF Graduate School leave guidelines at hr.ufl.edu/leave/graduate-assistant-leave-of-absence/.
