SBU Academic Calendar 2026-2027: Stony Brooks Dates

The SBU academic calendar for 2026–2027 covers fall 2026 and spring 2027 terms. Each semester runs approximately 15 weeks, with key dates spanning registration windows, university holidays, final exams, and commencement.

SBU Academic Calendar Fall 2026

  1. Stony Brook University students who drop or withdraw from courses on or before Sunday, August 30, 2026, will incur 0% tuition charges and receive a 100% tuition and fee refund.
  2. Students who drop or withdraw between Monday, August 31, 2026, and Sunday, September 6, 2026, will incur 30% tuition charges and receive a 70% tuition and fee refund.
  3. Students who drop or withdraw between Monday, September 7, 2026, and Sunday, September 13, 2026, will incur 50% tuition charges and receive a 50% tuition and fee refund.
  4. Students who drop or withdraw between Monday, September 14, 2026, and Sunday, September 20, 2026, will incur 70% tuition charges and receive a 30% tuition and fee refund.
  5. Students who drop or withdraw on or after Monday, September 21, 2026, will incur 100% tuition charges and receive no tuition or fee refund.
  6. Offices are closed on weekends. Students may process requests through SOLAR. Term withdrawals are processed based on the date the request is received.
  7. Undergraduate students seeking information about enrollment processes, withdrawing, taking a leave of absence, registration definitions, or forms may visit their corresponding advising office, the Office of the Registrar, or the Undergraduate Catalog.
  8. On Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 9:00 AM, students can begin enrolling for a second attempt of a course through SOLAR according to the Retake Policy.
  9. Students retaking a course for the third or additional time must submit a petition to their corresponding advising office.
  10. On Friday, August 14, 2026, students must complete re-matriculation for the Fall semester. A $50 fee applies.
  11. On Friday, August 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM, students may request an increase in their credit limit to 19 or 23 credits according to the Course Load Policy.
  12. Students enrolled in more than 19 credits will automatically be billed a $20 fee.
  13. On Friday, August 21, 2026, students beginning a third or additional attempt of a course must request approval from the academic department offering the course.
  14. Students requesting a third or additional course attempt must submit the Third Retake Request Form.
  15. Students approved for a third or additional attempt will be enrolled by the Registrar’s Office.
  16. On Friday, August 21, 2026, non-matriculating undergraduate students may begin enrollment (U0).
  17. On Sunday, August 23, 2026, students must complete semester cancellation by dropping all classes through SOLAR.
  18. On Monday, August 24, 2026, the Fall semester begins, and it is the first day of classes.
  19. Students who are not enrolled in at least one class before the semester begins will be charged a $50 late registration fee.
  20. On Friday, August 28, 2026, at 4:00 PM, students must complete major or minor changes effective for the Fall semester.
  21. On Friday, August 28, 2026, at 4:00 PM, the last day to join a waitlist for a class is scheduled.
  22. Students are responsible for any tuition liability incurred if they are registered from a waitlisted class.
  23. On Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 4:00 PM, the waitlist process ends.
  24. Students who wish to enroll from the waitlist after this date must contact the appropriate academic department, depending on seat availability.
  25. On Friday, September 4, 2026, at 4:00 PM, late registration ends.
  26. On Friday, September 4, 2026, at 4:00 PM, students must complete all enrollment changes, including adds, swaps, credit changes, and drops, through SOLAR.
  27. On Friday, September 4, 2026, students may no longer drop courses or submit a leave of absence or term withdrawal request without receiving a “W” (withdrawal) notation on their transcript.
  28. Full-time and part-time enrollment statuses will be locked after Friday, September 4, 2026.
  29. On Friday, September 4, 2026, undergraduate students enrolling in graduate courses must submit petitions to add those courses.
  30. On Monday, September 7, 2026, Labor Day will be observed, and no classes will be held.
  31. On Friday, October 9, 2026, at 4:00 PM, students must submit approved adjustment forms for selected AMS, MAT, MAP, and PHY courses to the Office of the Registrar.
  32. From Monday, October 12, 2026, through Tuesday, October 13, 2026, Fall Break will take place, and no classes will be held.
  33. On Friday, October 23, 2026, at 4:00 PM, students must submit Section/Credit Change Forms to the Office of the Registrar.
  34. Section and credit changes must be processed by 4:00 PM. After this deadline, students must submit a petition, and a “W” (withdrawal) notation will be recorded on the transcript.
  35. On Friday, October 23, 2026, students may select the Grade/Pass/No Credit (GPNC) option. This option is non-petitionable.
  36. On Friday, October 23, 2026, students may process withdrawals from individual courses through SOLAR. A “W” (withdrawal) notation will be recorded on the transcript.
  37. On Monday, October 26, 2026, students may begin submitting major and minor changes effective for the Spring semester.
  38. On Monday, November 2, 2026, advanced registration begins for Winter and Spring semesters according to enrollment appointments.
  39. From Wednesday, November 25, 2026, through Sunday, November 29, 2026, Thanksgiving Break will take place, and no classes will be held.
  40. On Friday, December 4, 2026, Fall and Winter degree candidates must submit graduation applications through SOLAR.
  41. On Saturday, December 5, 2026, the last day of Saturday classes will occur.
  42. On Monday, December 7, 2026, at 4:00 PM, students must submit leave of absence or term withdrawal requests through SOLAR.
  43. Requests must be processed by 4:00 PM on Monday, December 7, 2026.
  44. On Monday, December 7, 2026, classes officially end.
  45. On Tuesday, December 8, 2026, Reading Day will take place.
  46. From Wednesday, December 9, 2026, through Friday, December 11, 2026, final examinations will take place.
  47. On Saturday, December 12, 2026, final exams for Saturday classes and Reading Day will occur.
  48. From Monday, December 14, 2026, through Thursday, December 17, 2026, final examinations will continue.
  49. On Thursday, December 17, 2026, the semester officially ends.

  18. The Spring semester begins, and it is the first day of classes, on Monday, January 25, 2027.

  20. Students must complete major and minor changes effective for the Spring semester by Friday, January 29, 2027, at 4:00 PM.
  21. Students must complete waitlist requests by Friday, January 29, 2027, at 4:00 PM.
  22. Students are responsible for any tuition liability incurred if they are registered from a waitlisted class after Friday, January 29, 2027.
  23. The waitlist process ends, and students can no longer be enrolled through the waitlist process unless seats are available, on Thursday, February 4, 2027, at 4:00 PM.
  24. Students must contact the appropriate academic department after Thursday, February 4, 2027, regarding waitlist enrollment.
  25. Late registration ends, and students must process enrollment changes, including adds, swaps, and credit changes, through SOLAR by Friday, February 5, 2027, at 4:00 PM.
  26. Students may drop courses or submit a leave of absence or term withdrawal request without receiving a “W” (withdrawal) notation on their transcript until Friday, February 5, 2027, at 4:00 PM.
  27. Full-time and part-time enrollment statuses will be locked after Friday, February 5, 2027.
  28. Undergraduate students enrolling in graduate courses must submit petitions by Friday, February 5, 2027, at 4:00 PM.
  29. Students must submit approved adjustment forms for selected AMS, MAT, MAP, and PHY courses to the Office of the Registrar by Friday, March 12, 2027, at 4:00 PM.
  30. SBU Spring Break 2027 will take place from Monday, March 15, 2027, through Sunday, March 21, 2027, and no classes will be held during this period.
  31. Classes will resume after Spring Recess on Monday, March 22, 2027.
  32. Students may begin submitting major and minor changes effective for the Fall semester on Monday, March 29, 2027.
  33. Students must submit Section/Credit Change Forms to the Office of the Registrar by Friday, April 2, 2027, at 4:00 PM.
  34. After Friday, April 2, 2027, students must submit a petition for section or credit changes, and a “W” (withdrawal) notation will be recorded on the transcript.
  35. Students must select the Grade/Pass/No Credit (GPNC) option by Friday, April 2, 2027. This option is non-petitionable.
  36. Students must process withdrawals from individual courses through SOLAR by Friday, April 2, 2027. A “W” (withdrawal) notation will be recorded on the transcript.
  37. Advanced registration for Summer and Fall semesters begins according to enrollment appointments on Monday, April 5, 2027.
  38. Spring and Summer 2027 degree candidates must submit graduation applications and be included in the commencement publication by Wednesday, April 14, 2027.
  39. Students must submit graduation applications through SOLAR by Wednesday, April 14, 2027, to appear in the commencement publication.
  40. Students must submit leave of absence or term withdrawal requests through SOLAR by Friday, May 7, 2027, at 4:00 PM.
  41. Students applying for Spring or Summer graduation must submit graduation applications through SOLAR by Friday, May 7, 2027.
  42. Graduation applications submitted after April 14, 2027, will not appear in the commencement publication.
  43. Classes officially end on Saturday, May 8, 2027.
  44. Reading Day will take place on Monday, May 10, 2027.
  45. Final examinations will take place from Tuesday, May 11, 2027, through Friday, May 14, 2027.
  46. Final exams for Saturday classes and Reading Day will take place on Saturday, May 15, 2027.
  47. Final examinations will continue from Monday, May 17, 2027, through Wednesday, May 19, 2027.
  48. The Spring semester officially ends on Wednesday, May 19, 2027.
  49. Commencement will take place on Friday, May 21, 2027.
