The MTU academic calendar 2026-2027 provides students, faculty, and administrative staff with the core timeline necessary to navigate the upcoming year at Michigan Technological University.

Michigan Tech runs on a standard semester system across the academic cycles. Each major term consists of 14 weeks of active instruction, followed by a dedicated week of final examinations.

  2. The deadline to pay the fall tuition bill and confirm enrollment is Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
  3. MTU Fall 2026 classes start on Monday, August 31, 2026. It is the first day of classes.
  4. Week 1 begins on Monday, August 31, 2026.
  5. Fall schedules for unconfirmed students are dropped on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
  6. The last day to add or drop Term A courses with a refund is Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
  7. The last day to add fall semester courses without instructor approval is Friday, September 4, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
  8. Labor Day Recess takes place on Monday, September 7, 2026. Instruction resumes on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
  9. Week 2 begins on Monday, September 7, 2026.
  10. Financial aid full-time status is established on the census date, Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
  11. The last day to add or drop full-semester courses with a refund is Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

  30. MTU Fall Break 2026 takes place from Saturday, November 21, 2026, through Sunday, November 29, 2026. Instruction resumes on Monday, November 30, 2026, at 9:00 a.m.
  31. Week 13 begins on Monday, November 30, 2026.
  32. Week 14 begins on Monday, December 7, 2026.
  33. The last day to submit a committee-approved post-defense thesis, dissertation, or report to the Graduate School is Monday, December 7, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
  34. The deadline to submit all other degree completion paperwork to the Graduate School is Monday, December 7, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
  35. The last day of regular instruction is Friday, December 11, 2026.
  36. The final examination period begins on Monday, December 14, 2026, at 9:00 a.m, and ends on Friday, December 18, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
  37. Midyear commencement for undergraduate students takes place on Saturday, December 19, 2026, at 11:30 a.m.
