BYU Academic Calendar Deadline Definitions
All deadlines in the BYU Academic Calendar 2026–2027 are calculated relative to the first Monday of each term or semester, designated as Day 1.
Deadlines follow Mountain Daylight Time (MDT, UTC – 6) or Mountain Standard Time (MST, UTC – 7).
Unless otherwise noted, tasks must be completed by 11:59 PM MDT/MST on the specified date.
These deadlines apply equally to six-week (block) courses and semester-length courses.
Add Course Deadline (Day 1)
According to the BYU academic calendar schedules, students must add or register for any new course(s) by 11:59 PM on Day 1. After the BYU add course deadline for 2026-2027, no additional courses can be added for that term or semester.
Drop Course / Refund / Auto-Drop Deadline (Day 8)
Dropping courses on or before Day 8 entitles students to a full tuition refund, and the dropped courses do not appear on the transcript.
Day 8 is also the last day to drop without receiving a “W” on the transcript.
Students who have not met participation requirements by Day 8 are automatically dropped, receiving a full refund and no transcript record—known as the BYU auto-drop date.
Tuition Discount Deadline (Day 1)
By Day 1, students must pay full tuition (or meet payment requirements) to qualify for any available tuition discounts.
This aligns with the Add Course Deadline and is referred to as the BYU tuition discount deadline.
Financial Holds Applied (Day 21)
Students with any outstanding tuition balance by 11:59 PM on Day 21 will have a financial hold placed on their account, preventing registration for the next term or semester.
This is often called the “BYU financial hold deadline.”
Late Fees Applied (Day 22)
Starting at midnight on Day 22, any remaining tuition balance incurs a 5 percent late fee, commonly known as the “BYU 5% late fee.”
Last Day to Withdraw with a “W” Grade
- Block-Length Courses (Day 29): Withdrawal by Day 29 earns a “W” on the transcript. After Day 29, withdrawal is not permitted, and the student’s earned grade is recorded. This is known as the “BYU withdrawal deadline.”
- Semester-Length Courses (Day 85): Withdrawal by Day 85 (which corresponds to Day 29 of the second block) also earns a “W.” After Day 85, the actual grade stands.
Grades Available (5 Days After Term/Semester Ends)
Final grades are posted 5 calendar days after the last day of the term or semester, always on the Thursday following the conclusion of classes.
This is known as “BYU grades available.”
