January term classes begin Monday, January 4, 2027, and the last day is Friday, January 15, 2027. June 18, 2027, is not a random no-class day. Juneteenth (June 19) falls on a Saturday in 2027, so NYU observes the holiday on the preceding Friday, June 18 — matching the AP&PRS staff closure date exactly.

The same shift logic applies to July 5, 2027: Independence Day (July 4) falls on a Sunday in 2027, so NYU observes it on the following Monday.

Because the Summer term uses a compressed schedule, NYU schedules two separate Legislative Days (June 29 and July 7) to recover the instructional time lost to both observed holidays — not one, as in Fall and Spring.

What Is NYU “Legislative Day” (Legislative Monday)?

A Legislative Day is a rescheduled class day, not a holiday. When a University holiday falls on a day that would otherwise disrupt an even distribution of class meetings across the semester (most often a Monday), NYU designates a different weekday as a stand-in: classes on that date meet according to the schedule of the day being made up, most commonly Monday.
